YouTube: Career
choice or hobby?
State where and
when? : Monday 26th January Channel 4, 10.30 pm
Over the past
decade, YouTube has become an extremely popular choice of entertainment being
viewed for various reasons such as sports, gaming, music and short films. 3 up
and coming producers bring us a fantastic documentary that looks into a
constantly asked question whether YouTube is a popular career choice or only a
hobby that you can make money off in the meantime.
Elizabeth Anderson from the Telegraph sat down with
the 3 filmmakers; Arun Dey, Chloe Henry and Rory Oakley as we find out what was
it about YouTube that caught their interest.
Elizabeth: Afternoon guys so how did
All 3 of you come
together for this project?
Arun: Well we were
put in the same group for
Media and
initially worked very well together so when
It came to
gathering a team for a documentary it was
only natural that
we came together.
Elizabeth: So how
did the topic of YouTube come up?
Chloe: Well it’s a
popular website that many people use it’s an interesting topic that would be
deemed enjoyable for most people
And also people
who may not use YouTube or don’t know much about it would definitely learn a
lot of things about YouTube and would be very tempted to start using the
website for the various reasons we state in the documentary.
Elizabeth: Any
familiar faces featured in
The documentary?
Rory: Yes we have
two YouTuber’s named Elise Hollins and Charlotte Whitsey, Charlotte specializes
in costume play and Elise specializes in daily vlogs. As well as this we
interviewed Julie Maitland and asked for her verdict on the topic, she gave us
a great interview.
Elizabeth: Does
the documentary make you look at YouTube in a different way now?
Arun: Yes most
definitely you don’t realize how much effort YouTubers put into their videos
it’s something that takes a lot of time and patients. Also it’s shown us all
that YouTube is website which carries multiple purposes and that truly is a
great thing; it makes life so much easier.
Elizabeth: I can
certainly agree with that. Is there any advice that you would give to up and
coming YouTubers and people interested to get involved with video making?
Chloe: We would
say you should deffo go for it. It’s a fun route of production and aswell as
this it allows you to positively channel your creativity into something you
love.
Elizabeth: And
finally guys I have to ask this,YouTube positive career path or just a hobby
Chloe:I’m gonna
say a hobby which can be
Enlarged
